Luna Moth (Actias luna)
The luna moth is a very spectacular moth. The wings are pale green with a transparent spot on each wing. The hind wings are drawn out to form long sweeping tails. The wingspan ranges from 7.5 cm to 10.5 cm.
Moths, like butterflies, go through metamorphosis. The moth larvae feeds on many trees including alder, beech, cherry, hickory, pecan, and willow. The cocoons are usually concealed on the ground hidden among the leaf litter and so are very hard to find.
Metamorphosis can teach us that change is inevitable in our lives. Shedding old patterns and ideas allows us to come into new awareness, bringing new ideas. We emerge with wings– ready for flight.
